Where
We Are
We
are located in the business center of Coron Town which is
located on Coron Bay on the South East Coast of Busuanga Island. Busuanga
is the principle island in the Calamianes Group of Islands in Northern
Palawan and is located some 150 nautical miles (200 kilometers) North and
East of Puerto Princessa Palawan and 150 Nautical miles (200 kilometers)
South and West of Manila.
Coron Bay is formed by the three main islands of the Calamianes Group: BUSUANGA ISLAND(to the North), CULION ISLAND(to the South) and CORON ISLAND (to the East).
There is a lot of name repitition and it is pretty easy to get confused.
BUSUANGA ISLAND: Main Island in the Calmianes Group of Islands. The principal town on Busuanga Island is Coron Town. Coron Town is the municipal seat for Coron Municipality and is the main commercial center for the entire area.
"OLD" BUSUANGA: Sometimes referred to as "Busuanga Town". The original administartive head of Busuanga Island. Located on the West Coast some 35 kilometers by road from Coron.
CORON ISLAND: One of the three main islands in the Calamianes Group. Coron Island is basically uninhabitted and is reserved for the Tagbuanas (a cultural minority). Coron Island is one of the most scenic locations in the Philippines with its vertical limestone cliffs dropping directly into the sea in an amazing series of lagoons and fjords.
CORON TOWN is the Commercial, Business, and Transportation center for the Calamianes Group and is a bustling, peaceful town of 30,000. The main business is fish BUT we also have the largest cattle ranch in Asia. Busuanga Island and the Calamianes is rapidly becoming the Pearl Center of Asia.
CONCEPSION: A small town located on the West Coast of Busuanga Island. Connected to Coron Town by road.
CULION ISLAND: One
of the three main islands in the Calamianes Group. Culion forms the Southern
edge of Coron Bay.
CULION TOWN: Located on the North Coast of Culion Island. Culion Town was the site of one of the world's largest "leper colonies" and was established at the turn of the last century. The disesase is now totally under control and the Sanitorium and "colony" is being converted fornm the administration of the Department of Health to a regular municiaplity. Culion is rapidly developing into a fish trading center and provides medical support to the entire Calamianes Group.
SALVACION: Second larhgest town on Busuanga Island. Located on the central West Coast. Seat of the municipal govenment of Salvacion Municipality. Connected to Coron Town by road.
CORON BAY: The sheltered body of water formed
by Busuanga, Coron and Culion Islands.
The KALAMAYAN INN is located at the corner of Don Pedro
and St Augustin Streets in Coron Town
.
We are less than 100 meters from the main market and municipal pier and
within a five minute walk of all the Dive Shops in town.
For the "yachties", we are at 11 degrees 50 minutes North and 120 degrees 30 minutes East.
Coron is generally considered on the Southern fringes
of the "Typhoon Belt" but we have been known to take the odd hit. Our weather
is generaly rainy (daily showers) from June through November and dry from
December to May.
