I was deeply saddened upon
reading your December 7, 2007 issue of The Nueva Ecija Journal "Headliners"
which carried the news of the death of Sedfrey Ordonez, former Solicitor
General and later Secretary of Justice in the Aquino Administration.
I left Cabanatuan City with
my family in 1987 at the peak of my legal career to join our eldest son
who came here six years earlier. I vividly remember that in 1985
when I was elected secretary of the Nueva Ecija Chapter of the Integrated
Bar of the Philippines, then Professor Ordonez personally came to my law
office to extend his congratulations. Like the late Senator and Justice
Secretary Juan Liwag, Secretary Ordonez was one of the legal luminaries
of our country during his time.
I would note, though, that
the late Oscar Castelo, also from our province, likewise held cabinet
porfolios in the Quirino Administration as Secretary of Justice and Defense
at the same time, if I am not mistaken.

Thanks
for the anecdote about Sec. Ordonez. I have one: We once invited him to
guest in a program at DZXO-AM, which, at that time, was located at the
fourth floor of Diego Building. He emerged from the stairwell, walked straight
to the booth, sat down, and asked for the first question. Men half his age
would have first sat down to rest after going up four flights of stairs,
but not Sec. Ordonez!.. And thanks for the info about Sec. Castelo.
Sorry to have missed that one. -- RRV
I am a Guimbanian and proud
to be a Novo Ecijana. I have been a resident of The Netherlands for 34
years.
At the moment I am here in
the Philippines spending the Christmas and New Year with my Mom from Seattle
and my two sisters in the Philippines. It's my first Christmas here since
1982 and that's a long time ago. You know what I love with our country,
malayo pa ang Christmas they're already preparing for this great event...Hay
mga Filipino nga naman.
The Mall of Asia is really
huge, millions of people come in and out.. wow really amazing!!! I wanted
to tell more pero I know you have seen the place already so what's news
huh? Just sharing...
I was really surprised when
I heard about your Journal and at the same time also very thankful for
this. Your Nueva Ecija Journal is awesome and it gives information and
learning about Filipino kababayans here and abroad.
Congratulations to you for
all the job well done in promoting good relationships with all other kababayans
in other continents. Your photo galleries are awesome. The layout is awesome,
too.
We also have a Filipino-Dutch
organization here in The Netherlands and we are trying to get connected
with other kababayans all over the world for friendships and communication.
I hope that this email letter
would be the beginning of our good kababayan relationships that would last
for a very long time.
And congratulations
for receiving an award. I salute you sir.

Mabuhay! First time ko na
makita sa web ang inyong site and I felt 100% connected to my roots
right away. I`ve been living here in Canada for 18 years now and
never been home yet. From pictures of my hometown, Cabanatuan City,
it is in a very progressive state than before. Ii terribly miss a lot of
things especially when holiday season comes, puto bungbung and simbang
gabi, and some of my bestfriends, former classmates and relatives with
whom I lost contact after all these years. I finished high school in 1979
in the College of the Immaculate Conception, and engineering in CLPC in
1984 . I will welcome any good news from wherever you are.
Please reply. God Bless.

Mabuhay Nueva Ecija!
Laking gulat ko nang makita
ko ang website ng Neva Ecija. More power!
Ako po si Godofredo Aquino,
taga nueva ecija din. Laki ako sa Cabanatuan at duon din nag-aral. Ngayon
Mula ngayon palagi kong pupuntahan
itong Nueva Ecija site. Sana lalo pang gumanda ang Nueva Ecija.
GODOFREDO AQUINO
Vienna, Austria
Paglilinaw,
Godofredo.
Thank you very much.

The Filipino comunity here
in Honolulu will be holding a "pabasa" on Good Friday at the Filipino Community
Center in Waipahu. This activity is being organized by KATHA (Kapisanan
ng mga Tagalog sa Hawaii) whose members come from various Tagalog provinces
in the country.
The Consulate's assistance
has been requested in providing a video or photos or slides of various
Lenten practices in the Philippines which could be shown during the activity.
I came across the Nueva Ecija
Journal (Year 5) and was pleasantly glad that your Photo Gallery featured
"Semana Santa" with various photos of Lenten practices. I write to request
if we could use these photos and share them with our kababayans and guests
during the "pabasa" this Good Friday. You and the Nueva Ecija Journal will
be properly acknowledged should you favorably consider this request.
Maraming salamat po at mabuhay

Anyhoo, I just wanted to

FYI, if I could mention here
that the Class of 1966 just had a very successful grand reunion at
the high school last January 28th, 2006. I heard it was a blast!!!
And the next reunion will be held in 2009. This time, I will make

I am from Cabanatuan City

always visited your website.
I am a registered nurse in
Orange County, California. I am a product of Wesleyan University-Philippines

I always go back home, sometimes
twice a year, because I truly miss the Philippines, especially my hometown.
I could not exchange NE Pacific Mall to Irvine Spectrum, the Cabanatuan
City Freedom Park to Miles Square Park in Fountain Valley City. :-)
It may sound pathetic but there's no place like home. I always miss eating
balut, pisbol and chicharon with my friends. And I guess this simple life
is more meaningful than being away from my loved ones. The memories I have
in my beloved hometown will always linger in my mind.
Thanks for this website.
It brings home closer to our hearts.

All the best to the Editor
of NE Journal, and to all Novo Ecijanos.
Growing up in Manila, I always
looked forward to the school summer holiday, for I knew I'd be spending
it in San Anton, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija.
I have many fond memories
of our beloved barrio, going to the river for a swim , helping out in planting
the crops and learning to handle the 'araro'- which I never learned right.
And the simple living -- no modern conveniences then, no running water,
no electricity, and -- my God ! -- the hole-in-the ground outhouse.
Actually I was born not in
San Anton but in Bitulok in 1940, in a logging concession owned then by
the Buencaminos. My father, the late Dr. Benvenuto Juatco, was the camp
doctor then.
I'd like to learn things
about Bitulok, so, if anybody has pictures or anything at all about the
place, please do email me at
terrjuat@telus.net.
TERRY JUATCO

You
must be such a hopeless romantic to actually miss the outhouse! Anyway,
your beloved Bitulok is now called Gabaldon, named after former Nueva Ecija
Gov. Isauro Gabaldon. There is a barangay there is called Sawmill -- could
that be the place where you were born? I hope readers would send you more
info/photos about the town. -- RRV

How nice to see and read
through the Internet about my former great province of Nueva Ecija. It
had been a long time searching your website for the last three years in

awaited journal of my home province.

Studied and taught for two years in eastern Cabanatuan until I finally
moved to my new and adopted country CANADA. I wish to thank the publisher/editor-in-chief

News of flooding and the

Many thanks for your coverage.

FELICIDADES!!!!!!!!!!!por
un trabajo muy maravilloso.
I hope that all Novo Ecijanos
abroad will not stop supporting this great site. It's a one-man band but
this one-man band reaches everyone around the world. Hard to believe but
I am very proud of it.
I lived in England for almost
10 years and gained a lot of friends from our country but never met someone
from our province. Two years ago my husband's work took us here in the
Islands of the Bahamas and -- surprise! surprise! -- all of a sudden I
have friends from Talavera (where I was born), Licab, Cabanatuan, Minabuyok
and San Leonardo. It's nice to say "eka" when you talk to them, although
some friends ask what it means. And we Novo Ecijanos know exactly what
that means.
I am a graduate from Nueva
Ecija High School Batch of 1981 so if there is any plan of a reunion around
the States , let me know.
By the way some friends asks
where is Bahamas. The Islands of the Bahamas is in the south and south
east of Miami, Florida and comprises of 700 islands. New Providence is
the most populated island and its capital and there are approximately
200-300 Flipino professionals here. But since my husband is a Mexican chef,
Mexico has been home to me for the last 5 years too. We also have a very
good Filipino community over there.
I wish Nueva Ecija Journal
all the best. VIVA NUEVA ECIJA!!!!!!!!!!

(Ahem!)
Ah... ah... darn! Can I shift to English now? Obviously, taking 12 units

Thanks for your kind words regarding the Journal! It does feel nice to
be appreciated once in a while! Y, regards to your esposo Mexicano y los
otros Novo Ecijanos in tu lugar.:-) -- RRV
I discovered NE Journal through
surfing on the web about 20 months ago. I became your regular reader and
always look forward to every new issue since then.
I would like you to know
that we appreciate NE Journal very much. I do not know how you manage to
publish NEJ regularly as I hardly see any ads. If each reader would contribute
$1.00 to you even once a year, you'de probably be a millionaire due to
the number of your readers.
If I know where you are in
Gapan, I would love to meet you personally next time we go home.
I come from San Leonardo.
I consider San Leonardo and Gapan as my home towns. I have been living
in Australia for some 20 years. I have been back to the Philippines four
times since, mostly during Christmas holidays.
Anyway, I am missing and
would like to catch up with anyone from NESHS class 1975. Hopefully through
your website, someone may try to contact me.
More power to you and to
NE Journal and God bless you.
RAUL TINIO

Re
your second paragraph where you said I could be a millionaire if each Journal
visitor would contribute one dollar a year -- that could be wishful
thinking. I am now conducting a Journal donation campaign and as
you've probably seen in the donation report, the targetted amount has yet
to be attained.
at gawing "Ilocano Journal." (Oops, sorry for the ethnic joke about being
a tightwad.) I'd be delighted to meet you in person next time you come

I am a son of a Pinoy and
